Inglourious Basterds (Film Review)

Dec 4, 2011

In Nazi occupied France, young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller takes a rapid interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the "Basterds", a group of Jewish-American guerilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl's plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.  Quentin Tarantino has done a few films I haven't watch in my life. Way back in 2009, I saw a new trailer, it has an World War II setting, when I first saw the tagline, "The New Film By Quentin Tarantino", I said to myself, who the hell is Quentin Tarantino! So there it goes, I searched Quentin Tarantino on IMDB and I guess he did many high-rated films I have missed. So a few months forward, the wait for this film is entirely over. I thought I love the trailer and I guess this will be the first film I have to see by Tarantino. 2 years forward, loving and addicted to the film, I decided to make a review of that film at my blog. So, here it goes.

Inglourious Basterds is one of the best films I have seen in my life. I guess you might not been familiar with this one was shown in a limited release here in the Philippines. Besides, most of you might not become so familiar with Quentin. As you already know, he was the genius behind the mind-gripping films like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Reservoir Dogs. By the way, let's get more further with the film.

Like what I have said, this is one hell of a movie. I love the aspect that this was supposed to be a war film but it doesn't. I love that Tarantino had made a new genre with this film. I have no idea if this was a war film, or an action film. This is a gripping film that I guess will surely drive you at the edge of your seat as the film goes on. Anyways, the acting is f**king awesome.

Brad Pitt as an Jewish military soldier, now that's surprising. Brad did an amazing performance here, he's easy and confident with his character and that's what I love about his role in this film. Christoph Waltz, who is famous because of his Hans Landa role is very magnificent. I thought he was really serious and so much scary that he instantly won an Oscar. His performance was really great and good job Christoph!
The language used for this film is 40% German and 60% English. First, I love looking at subtitles in movies. I do much watching with subtitles rather than without. The film uses many languages I guess, and I really have no problem with it. Some people might think that the film disappoint them because of the subtitles, but I think it's fine.

The dialogue is dazzling and what I love about it is it's very long. There are some memorable lines that will grab your attention and made you get along more with the script. Also, of course it's written by the minds of Quentin Tarantino. Who would ever forget Royale With Cheese? I thought Tarantino scripts are way beyond very awesome and moving. The cinematography in this film is awesome. It's very edgy and some shots are very amusing and awesome.
Overall, the film is very awesome and not that brutal. Cinematography is awesome. Direction is awesome. Script is amusing. Performance is magnificent. Perfect way to describe an awesome film like this.

The geek rates it 8.6/10. The 2nd Best Film I have seen by Quentin Tarantino.
