TOP 5: Musicals

Jan 11, 2013
If you ask people on what are their least favorite genre, mostly the thing they will say is musicals. Musicals has been dead for this time, I can recall that only one musical movie will be released this year, Les Miserables. I guess because people doesn't give a damn on those singing and dancing on screen. Well, if you'll gonna ask me, musicals is one of my favorite genres. There's a whole lot of varieties to choose from, mostly classics like 'My Fair Lady' or 'The Wizard of Oz'. Musicals does not only give entertainment and laughter, but great, pure songs you'll never forget.

In this episode of Top 5, I will list my all-time favorite musicals. It is my opinion and definitely not yours:

5) Rocky Horror Picture Show
RHPS is not your typical "masterpiece or brilliant" musical film. Instead, what you got here is a fun, trippy and witty experience. Tim Curry alone playing the iconic Dr. Frank-N-Furter is something to look forward to in this film.

4) Oliver!
One of the greatest musicals in my opinion. Oliver! is much more of 'great storytelling' rather than the fact of being a musical film. This movie is delightful along with brilliant performances by Mark Lester and Oliver Reed.

3) West Side Story
When you talk about the greatest musicals ever made, no list is made without putting 'West Side Story' in their top favorites. West Side Story is one of the best modern musicals our there, and had the most terrific songs ever put on any musical.

2) The Sound of Music
The Sound of Music is one of the most unforgettable musical ever. Not only for its bubbly and memorable songs, but for Julie Andrew's performance as Maria Von Trapp. This one is one of those films that you can't get your eyes out.

1) Singin' in the Rain
And yes, Singin' in the Rain is my Top 1 on this list. It's one of my all-time favorites and also that movie where you can watch it for 3 times a day without being bored. Gene Kelly, Donald O' Connon and Kathy Selden are such a phenomenon and brings joy in their screen time.

So, that's my Top 5 All-time favorite musicals. Actually, i'm putting Grease, Mary Poppins, and Wizard of Oz something in between but I failed to do so. I'll be back by next week for my reviews of Zero Dark Thirty, Les Miserables and Jack Reacher.
