In time for the 35th anniversary of its theatrical release next year, Mike De Leon's frat drama 'Batch '81' will finally be restored.
Singapore's AFA (Asian Film Archive) will be conducting the restoration process, with supervision from De Leon.
The surviving 35mm print of the film's decaying condition today urges the filmmaker as well as different film groups such as FDCP (Film Development Council of the Philippines) and AFA to immediately do the procedure as soon as possible.
AFA is notably known to restore Lino Brocka's iconic film 'Maynila Sa Kuko Ng Liwanag' years ago.
'Batch '81' launched the career of the late Mark Gil to fame for his determined performance as Sid Lucero, a university student auditioning for a spot in fraternity group Alpha Kappa Omega (AKO). The film also participated in the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival in 1982, one of the first few Filipino films to be screened on the festival.
