Review: “Tayo Sa Wakas” is a worthy send-off to DonBelle

"Tayo Sa Wakas (Us in the End)" is the send-off film for DonBelle (the pairing of Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano) after the announcement that they're pursuing solo careers.

It's a fitting and worthy film to close a chapter for the pair. Out of all Filipino love teams, DonBelle dared to explore the complexities of being a young adult in this era. The version of romance in their past films and series may be optimistic, but it is also supportive and understanding of each other's moments of vulnerability.

"Tayo Sa Wakas" continues this thread. Cisco (Donny Pangilinan) and Cheska (Belle Mariano) are work colleagues-turned-lovers caught in the difficulties of adulthood. As their careers demand more of them, emotional tension increases in their relationship.

Cisco and Cheska are flawed. They tend to think for themselves and be too impulsive with their emotions. Pangilinan and Mariano depict these imperfections in a way that feels genuine and raw. Both actors have truly matured in their approach to acting over the years. "Tayo Sa Wakas" might be their best work yet.

The film could've benefited from a tighter narrative, but it managed to conclude with a satisfying ending. As a closing chapter for DonBelle, "Tayo Sa Wakas" is the right note to go out on.

“Tayo Sa Wakas” is showing in Philippine cinemas starting 27 May 2026.
