HBO Max launch event in New Zealand

Warner Bros. Discovery celebrated the launch of HBO Max in Aotearoa New Zealand last June 16, 2026 with an unforgettable waterfront event at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre. Bringing together HBO talent, local stars, influencers, fans and members of the New Zealand media industry, the HBO Max launch honoured the very best of storytelling and New Zealand culture.

With House of the Dragon’s Steve Toussaint in attendance, alongside Warner Bros. Discovery’s Managing Director ANZ Michael Brooks and APAC Streaming Lead Jason Monteiro the evening opened with a powerful pōwhiri performed by Te Whare Karioi.

Guests were immersed in HBO series and Warner Bros. films as images, videos and quotes filled the room.  A curated menu showcased some of the country’s finest produce, themed to key HBO Max titles including The Sopranos, Harry Potter and The Pitt.  Dishes were paired with a premium selection of local New Zealand wines.

The celebration continued with a standout live performance from award-winning musician Troy Kingi and band, who played tribute to the soundtrack from the Academy Award-winning film Sinners.

The launch event marked the official arrival of HBO Max in New Zealand on 16 June, offering audiences unprecedented access to a world-class library of content spanning HBO Originals, Warner Bros. films, DC, Max Originals and more—all in one place.
