Captain America: A Retrospective

We will be seeing the man in stars and stripes enter the Marvel cinematic lore with 'Captain America: The First Avenger', and we are all excited don't we? Chris Evans play the titular Captain America/ Steve Rogers and is set to swing his vibranium shield for the new generation when the film opens this weekend.

Captain America is one of the most popular comic-book characters in the Marvel saga. Created by the comic icons Jack Kirby ('Fantastic Four') and Joe Simon, this super soldier, accompanied with his iconic shield (a shield with a star embossed in the middle , resembling the US flag), has been Marvel's first heroes on their line-up. The hero is so iconic and special to this Marvel universe that actors Chris Pine ('Star Trek'), Sam Worthington ('Moon'), Chace Crawford ('Gossip Girl'), John Krasinski ('The Office') and many other great actors reportedly auditioned for the role. But it went to Chris Evans to take on this part. Chris Evans played a familiar Marvel character before—Johnny Storm/ Human Torch in the not-so-good 'Fantastic Four' adaptation. It's a surprising choice, but it's good for now since Evans looked like he's going to nail it.

'Captain America: The First Avenger' is about.. well..obviously...Steve Rogers. When he was involved in a top-secret project (Super Soldier Serum), he was transformed to a bulky, big-bicep Super Soldier and is used to defeat the vicious Nazi known to many as the 'Red Skull', Hitler's ruthless head of weaponry and leader of a terrorist organization, who intends to use a tesseract energy-source for world domination.
This is not the first time Captain America appeared on the big screen—remember the 1990 'Captain America' movie? A lot don't like at all.. I mean it was a terrible, terrible movie, and lands a grade of 2.9/10 in IMDB. The 90s was the era Marvel was slightly forgotten with their numerous comic book adaptations. But with a new, reformed universe to establish the Marvel characters, obviously a Captain America movie is on the horizon. Jon Favreau was originally the choice to helm this movie, but due to schedule conflicts with 'Iron Man', the spot was taken over by Joe Johnston ('The Wolfman').
