I'm really not sure if i'm all sold with Judd Apatow's 'Trainwreck'. The movie has its moments where I laughed a lot, and there are things that could make you wonder why it's even there in the first place. It's the typical Apatow movie we get, but don't expect the script to go hysterical like the director's past comedies like 40-Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up. Don't get me wrong, Amy Schumer was a promising comedian and all but it's the lack of improvised lines that left me hanging (or maybe i'm just missing the ol' Apatow gang like Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, etc.), and actually dismayed after watching.
The movie's first hour was a blast, but it dragged itself down to focus on numerous Dad visits, intervention and other unnecessary drama that Apatow stuffed in because his other films have it. The overlong running time was really not much of a big deal, but still the movie really need to trim 20-30 minutes down for a tighter finish.
'Trainwreck', overall, was still a fun experience. It's overlong, stuffed duration will most likely make you check your watch a few times, but Schumer and Hader will keep you hanging until the last moments. Not as hilariously and memorable as older Judd Apatow movies, it's still worth watching to pass the time. The geek rates it 6.5/10!
'Trainwreck' is rated R-18 by the MTRCB and now showing exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas from United International Pictures Philippines!
