Here's What Star Wars Fans Thought of 'The Phantom Menace' Back in 1999

'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace' was inarguably the most anticipated film before its release. Fans are so excited to see the movie that they lined up to see its first trailer in front of Meet Joe Black only to leave theater immediately after it was shown for some. It's been 16 years since the last entry Return of the Jedi came out, and with creator George Lucas back on the helm, it's impossible (almost) that 'The Phantom Menace' will indeed become one of the biggest failures in cinematic history. A video below just show how ecstatic the fans are, and at one point complementing Jar Jar Binks.

And you can see the look on everyone's faces while on cueue for the film's premiere, with most of them dressed in Star Wars-themed attire. Even after the movie, the smiles are still fresh but fast-forward 10-15 years, there's no way all of those smiles will last.

I sense The Force Awakens will follow the same route since it is a direct sequel to the original trilogy, but quality-wise I really do hope the filmmakers learned of the prequels' mistakes.
