Independence Day Resurgence movie review

The production for 'Independence Day: Resurgence' has been really rough, taking 20th Century Fox to release it 20 years after its predecessor. Details about it wasn't disclosed bu the long wait to get this made really hurt the film terribly.

In the film, the humans are now applying alien technology as their own weapon after defeating them. Decades later, the aliens seek vengeance to hopefully take down humanity and make the Earth their own.

Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles as President Whitmore and David Levinson from the last movie, and given the talent both of these thespians have, it appears their charm has lost. Both actors, especially Pullman who feels tired throughout the film, forced for the sole purpose of coming back with a paycheck.

Independence Day Resurgence movie review

The action sequences were visually exciting, but from a narrative standpoint it felt out of place. I understand this movie was made for entertainment, to please the audience with computer generated explosions, but everything here turned out to be what recent action films has established: make all of it feel hollow. It's really impossible for someone to care about the destruction here if the filmmakers failed to make sense to each frame in the first place.

For a film that pitted the end of humanity, there's nothing human with 'Independence Day: Resurgence'. And what a disgrace for a film to put an endless crap on human being instead of honoring it.

The geek rates it 4/10!

'Independence Day: Resurgence' is now showing in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox Philippines! Rated PG by the MTRCB.
