ABS-CBN Films signed a joint deal with Singapore-based production company Cre8 Productions in this year's Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) to develop projects that will be shown not just in the Philippines, but abroad as well. Their first collaborative effort will be a remake of 'Magic Temple.'

The original film, released in 1996, is written (with Erik Matti) and directed by Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes. In this remake, Mikhail Red ('Eerie,' 'Neomanila,' 'Birdshot') was announced to direct.

Red revealed in a Facebook post that this will be a modern take of the beloved story, which follows three teenage boys to defeat an evil force with their own magical power.

"The plan is for it to act as the first of a series, allowing fans to see the characters grow similar to those in the "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" franchises," Red said.

A release date is yet to be revealed.
