Nathalie Boltt’s “Holy Days” follows Brian, a young boy from New Zealand, who got into an unlikely alliance with three nuns. When threats arise to close their community convent, the band will set off on a trip across the country in hopes of saving it.
This is a road trip film like any other, and I mean it in the best way. Great scenery, well-intentioned characters, and a charming sense of humor make it a breeze to watch. When the quad sets out on its long journey, the film not only finds its energy but also deeper sincerity in its characters.
It's great to see the three actresses who played the nuns together: Miriam Margolyes, Jackie Weaver, and Judy Davis. Their banter with young Kiwi actor Elijah Tamati, who plays Brian, is a welcoming delight.
Seeing “Holy Days” on a sunny weekend over a refreshing drink is everything I needed. If you’re looking for a good breather that feels like a warm hug in the cinemas now, this is an easy recommendation.
“Holy Days” is now showing in New Zealand cinemas.
